Janelle was born and raised in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. After graduating from Walter Payton College Prep, she attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she first began mentoring young people. As an undergraduate, Janelle majored in Global Studies and French language, with a concentration in International Development, and spent a semester abroad studying in Cameroon.
She joined Y.O.U. in 2016 after two years with Chicago Public Schools as a Post-Secondary Coach, and developed a passion for connecting students with college and career opportunities. Previously, she served as a College Access & Outreach Specialist with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, and with City Year Chicago at Roberto Clemente Community Academy as a Corps Member.
In her free time, Janelle collects books and music, and enjoys traveling, reading, and brunch.
