Every student dreams of attending university.

Whilst still at school, students, especially seniors, often talk about colleges, courses available, and current job trends. How much they know varies student-to-student and school-to-school.

Some students have a good awareness of what's on offer, strong family support and the confidence to make enquiries.  However, the majority are too shy to ask anyone anything, and lack family support, as many parents have not been to college themselves.

University studies can be the key to a successful future if you make the right choices, but if you choose something you end up not wanting to do in the future or something too general so that you still need to specialise. University can be really fun if you are doing something you really enjoy.

So, the bottom-line is that knowledge about colleges, courses and careers varies between students. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to know exactly what you are going to do. Make sure you research all your options before deciding on one and applying. It's more difficult to change course once you have set the ball rolling.

Different colleges have different norms, rules, cut-off percentages, availability of courses, admission procedures and so on. It's a good idea to keep an eye on national newspapers, watch news channels, surf the internet, ask your counsellor, teachers, seniors and, most importantly, seniors at the college you want to get admission as they will have first hand information.

Delhi University Admission Tips

Understanding ICR form:

The Pre-admission form, printed on a special paper, uses the Intelligent Character Reader (ICR) technology for scanning and converting the handwritten information provided by the applicant into computer data. Clearer the handwriting, more accurate is the data generated by the computer. So, in one line ICR form is common admission form for DU admission accepted by all the colleges except St. Stephens and Jesus & Mary College.

One ICR form can be used to apply for at most TEN courses. For each course, you can opt to apply in at most eight colleges. In case you want to apply in more course-college combinations than you can do so by using additional forms.

However, you can always ask the office bearer incase you have any doubts or confusions.

Getting ICR forms: Common pre-admission (ICR) form along with the Information Bulletin can be obtained only from Admission Information Centers of the University of Delhi.  The price of one form along with the information bulletin is Rs. 20. These Centers would also receive the completed application forms from candidates.

Filling the ICR forms: ICR form has two pages. Do not detach them. Use of blue/black ball point pen is required for filling the first page. Impression made on the first page is automatically recorded on the second page (carbon-less copy). Codes of courses and colleges given in the Information bulletin should be correctly mentioned for recording choices. (Table A, Table-B, Table-C and Table-D giving code numbers are in the first ten green pages of the Information Bulletin)

Use BLOCK LETTERS to fill the form, writing one character in the middle of each box. The letters should not touch the sides of the box.

Select the colleges you would like to study in and the course you would like to pursue keeping in mind the cut-off percentages of last academic year.

Do not detach the carbon-less copy before submitting the ICR form at any of the Admission Information Centers. Detached, torn or mutilated forms will not the accepted.

Submission of ICR forms:

Filled-up ICR forms should be submitted at the Admission Information Centers listed below only. On receipt of the form, an official of the University of Delhi will detach the carbonless copy and duly stamp it before returning it as an acknowledgement. Applicants need to preserve the carbon-less copy till the admission process is over.

Applying to university is not a big deal if you are well equipped.

For example in Delhi, it is advisable to contact Mr. Jigme Gyaltsen lag, TYH for admissions assistance.  Also, many Indian cities have different Tibetan student associations. You can always ask them for help and guidance. Don't feel ashamed asking about courses and colleges. Everyone has gone through this phase in his or her life. The more you ask the more likely you are to get this phase over with rapidly. So, you are not the first one to feel the admission blues.

While applying to Delhi University, you have to fill in a centralised form and submit it first. Before filling the form, check the courses availability and cut off percentages at the college. Centralised forms are accepted in all DU colleges except St. stephens and Jesus & Mary college. There will be 3-4 cut-off lists announced every week and if you are selected only then should you purchase and fill in the college prospectus, otherwise it is waste of time, money and energy.

Please donot forget to visit DU website http://www.du.ac.in where you will get everything about Delhi University.

So, YOTA hopes this information will make your admission a bit easier.

ALL THE BEST!!!
