Talayah Lemon

Talayah serves as a AmeriCorps Y.O.U.th Serve Member

I am Talayah Lemon. I was born and raised in Matteson, Illinois, about 20 minutes south of Chicago. I enjoy laughing, listening to music, going on adventures, learning new things, and  making/ spreading art. I  am a recent graduate from Augustana College, class of 2021. I graduated with a major in Sociology and a minor in art. I have had much experience with youth in my community. I served as a camp leader for a few summers with a program called C.A.S.T Camp (Cop & Students together), and for a total of 3 years I've served as a youth leader at my church daycare, as well as a local daycare. 

I am excited to be immersed in youth again because I am passionate about learning about youth and understanding their needs within our society, whether its ranging from emotional support and availability to everyday, lifestyle resources. Being immersed within the youth will also prepare me for my future goals as an art therapist. In the future I plan to work with different populations, but I am mostly interested in working with youth. Serving for the youth will help me learn the necessary skills that will allow me to create and advocate for easily accessible healing spaces/opportunities for youth of color.
