Desja Hickman

Desja works as a Program Coordinator at Y.O.U.

Desja Hickman is a community outreach specialist, educator and multimedia coordinator pursuing her passion for youth development through the power of creativity and community.  Desja Hickman. jpg.jpg

Hickman received a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media Arts at Clark Atlanta University, a Historical Black College and University, in May 2020. During her time at CAU she served as an editor on The Panther Newspaper and Communications Arts Journal and secretary for NAACP CAU Chapter.

As an Evanston native, Hickman grew up the oldest of three children and with a teacher as her mother. This fostered her love for leading and guiding youth to excel both academically and creatively. Since the age of 14, Hickman has held a job catering the youth of Evanston first being at the McGaw YMCA as an aquatics instructor. 

Hickman also holds a paraprofessional license and has worked with youth spanning 10 countries and 6 different languages. On her spare time you can catch Hickman reading, watching Bones, making ramen, or cuddling with her puppy Bob.
