JayLashay Young

Jay Young serves as an Afterschool Program Manager at Oakton Elementary.

She enjoys using her youth development skills to serve the underserved communities through youth enrichment programs to support youth in their career goals. She is trained in implementing social-emotional learning skills into youth programs.

Jay is also a multifaceted artist with knowledge specifically in nonprofits centering multicultural, youth development, and dance education. She is an apprentice study dancer at Ayodele Drum & Dance where she studies and performs West African Drum & Dance in Chicago. She earned her B.A. in Business with a minor in Theatre Arts at Kalamazoo College. She has trained in Commercial Jazz, Hip Hop, Heels, Afro Dance, and Traditional West African Dance at New York’s Broadway Dance Center, Wellspring Dance Academy, and Ayodele Drum & Dance Company. She taught West African Dance classes at the Kalamazoo Public Schools, Western Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, and other Michigan institutions.

Jay aims to continue building relationships with families and youth and developing her skills to better serve the community.
